MODERN CHALLENGES IN SCIENCE TEACHING: WHAT IS SCIENTIFIC LITERACY

AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Summary. The article examines the meaning of scientific literacy competence and the necessity of forming this competence in students. Here, the results of our students' scientific literacy competence in PISA and TIMSS international studies were analyzed in terms of content. In the primary and secondary education systems of countries with successful results in PISA and TIMSS international studies, great attention is paid to the formation of scientific literacy competence in students. This competence is mainly fulfilled through the integrative subject "Science".
