THE ROLE OF USING FICTION
IN ENGLISH CLASSES
Summary. Oral speech skills in language learners develop as a result of
formation of reading culture and satisfaction of information literacy. Reading
is such a skill that the need for it increases as we absorb information.
Reading original fiction in English helps to form oral speech, enriches the
vocabulary, gets to know the culture and literature of the country of the
language being studied, develops analytical thinking, helps to become a part of
the world with spiritual and aesthetic values. In the teaching of foreign
languages, it is always emphasized that fiction teaches to understand the
characteristics of different cultures, helps to develop personality and
critical thinking, and is important in improving communication and language
skills. The selection of literary texts for teaching a foreign language is a
multi-stage process, and this issue depends on the criteria used by specialists
and teachers engaged in this selection. The selection of literary texts can be
made based on different criteria and for different purposes.
