ISSUES OF CLASSIFICATION OF PHRASEOLOGICAL
UNITS IN TEACHING ENGLISH
Summary. The article examines the classification issues
of stable/fixed word combinations and phraseological units in English. The
dominant models are Howarth, Cowie, Melchuk, Caesar, Jerney, etc. the criteria
accepted by linguists and their corresponding classifications are analyzed. It
is concluded that knowing the classifications of students learning English for
professional purposes helps them to master the meaning and expression of fixed
word combinations correctly and not to have difficulties in communicating with
their native speakers.
