THE PROCESS OF SELECTING LITERARY TEXTS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

 Summary. The article deals with the selection of literary texts that can be used in teaching foreign languages. The selection of literary texts for teaching a foreign language is a multi-stage process and it depends a lot on the criteria used by those experts, including the teachers involved in this selection, to evaluate the literature. Important selection criteria are the appropriateness of the lexical complexity of the text to the students' level of language preparation, as well as the ability to ensure effective interaction between the text, the environment and the reader in relation to this text. English language learners acquire sufficient skills for free communication in order to use the foreign language in a wider context, including certain factors, which include the study of literary texts.
