SPEECH PATHOLOGIES MANIFESTED IN DAMAGES TO THE TEMPORAL AREAS OF THE
BRAIN
Summary. When the dominant hemisphere is damaged, speech (and related
functions) are impaired differently in different individuals, with relatively
easy recovery in some and almost no recovery in others. These facts cannot be
explained only by the degree of damage (volume of damage, presence of
complicating factors, etc.). Apparently, the degree of dominance of one of the
hemispheres varies greatly, even in relation to such lateral processes as
speech, and demonstrates significant variability in the local pathology of
higher cortical functions.
