THE ROLE OF GIS IN TEACHING GEOGRAPHY

Abstract. This article examines the role and importance of geographic information systems (GIS) in modern geography teaching. GIS technologies help students gain a deeper understanding of the subject by providing collection, storage, analysis and visualization of geographic data. The article explains in detail the integration of GIS into the teaching process, its impact on the development of students' logical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the opportunities it provides for teachers. At the same time, the current situation and future prospects of GIS application in Azerbaijani secondary schools are also assessed.
