CONTENT AND STRUCTURAL INNOVATIONS IN THE TEACHING OF AZERBAIJAN GEOGRAPHY
Abstract.
The
article analyzes the formation of national content in the process of teaching
Azerbaijan’s geography in general education schools, as well as the reforms
carried out within the framework of curriculum modernization. Since the 1990s,
the national orientation of the geography subject content has been
strengthened, and as a result of the implementation of the 2011 and 2022
curricula, the teaching process has acquired an activity- and outcome-oriented
character, which is explained on a scientific basis.
The research shows that in
the improved curriculum, the content of the geography subject was reconstructed
in four main directions, and 10 main and 37 sub-standards related to
Azerbaijan’s geography were identified. This demonstrates that the national
component occupies a special place in the structure of the subject and creates
conditions for the development of students’ national-spatial awareness,
analytical thinking, and eco-geographical responsibility.
