THE FORMATION OF
COMMUNICATION-ORIENTED STRATEGIC COMPETENCE OF ORAL SPEECH IN STUDENTS IN
TEACHING ENGLISH
Abstract. The
formation of students’ communicative strategic competence in oral English
speech is one of the main theoretical and methodological directions of foreign
language teaching at the higher education level. Communicative competence is a
set of knowledge, skills and action strategies that ensure effective
communication and information exchange in a given cultural context. This
competence is complex in nature and combines such components as adequate
maintenance of communicative distance, quick response to changes in the tone of
communication, mastering the knowledge and social behavior norms expected from
the bearer of a particular culture, organization of speech acts in accordance
with the topic, as well as the purposeful application of socially accepted
communication formulas. In addition, it also requires the optimal use of verbal
and non-verbal means necessary for effective interaction, appropriate to the
situation.
Developing students’ communicative-strategic
competence during English language teaching in higher education is of great
importance in terms of supporting their social-spiritual development,
strengthening the humanistic content of education, and realizing the
communicative potential of each student to the maximum level.
For this reason, the main goal of teaching English at the university is to
form students’ communicative and strategic competence in oral speech, to
develop them as individuals who can actively participate in intercultural
communication and independently improve their communicative activities.
