THE RISK OF SUICIDE, THE PROBLEM OF TIME PERCEPTION AND THINKING
ABOUT TIME IN YOUTH
Abstract. Time perception
plays an important role in human life as one of the complex types of
perception, which is one of the levels of sensual cognition. Consideration of
the idea of time perception in the context of idealistic and materialistic
approaches is based on the assumption that the corresponding concept is a
feature of the human psyche or exists independently of it. In this sense, the
concepts of objective time and subjective time are distinguished. As a result
of our study, it was determined that there is a two-way very weak negative and
significant relationship (rspearman = -.081, p = .020) between young
people's thinking about time and suicide risk. It was found that there was a
significant difference between the scores of groups with past tense thinking
and future thinking (p = .006), the scores of groups with present tense
thinking and future thinking (p = .002). As a result, the mean suicide risk of
youth with future-oriented thinking was lower than that of youth with past and
present-oriented thinking.
