Abstract. The article examines the concept of spiritual education and
gradual development based on Imam Ghazali's work "The Path of the Devotees
Leading to Paradise". The principle of gradual development, the unity of
knowledge and practice, the role of the teacher, individual initiative and
self-education components of Ghazali's approach are compared with modern
pedagogy. The work is presented as a universal pedagogical model that provides
both religious and moral education and the systematic development of the
personality. The summary shows that Ghazali's model reveals an educational
