THE ROLE OF TEXTBOOKS IN THE FORMATION OF NATIONAL IDENTITY AND SECURITY AWARENESS IN GENERAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS
Abstract.
The article examines, from a scientific and pedagogical perspective, the role
of textbooks in the formation of national identity and security awareness
within the context of the ideological and cultural challenges posed by modern
globalization and the information society. National identity is analyzed as a
key ideological factor in shaping an individual’s historical and cultural
affiliation and civic position. Security awareness is interpreted as a complex
socio-pedagogical concept related not only to military and physical threats but
also to informational, ideological, and cultural risks. Based on Azerbaijani
and international experience, the article analyzes the functions of the
education system–particularly textbooks–in transmitting national and moral values,
strengthening historical memory, and developing a culture of security. As a
result of the study, scientifically grounded recommendations are proposed for
improving textbook policy on the basis of national ideology and security
principles.
