THE IMPORTANCE OF PLAY THERAPY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM
Abstract. Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition affecting
children’s social, emotional, speech, and cognitive development. This article
examines the importance of play therapy in supporting the development of
children with autism. Play therapy provides a safe and engaging environment
that promotes social interaction, emotional expression, speech, and cognitive
skills. Approaches such as Floortime and JASPER, sensory play, role and
imaginative play, structured activities, visual supports, expressive arts, and
technology-based interventions enhance the development of children with autism.
Individualized and comprehensive play therapy approaches play a crucial role in
strengthening children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.
