Akif Nuragha
Abbasov was born in the city of Shirvan (formerly Ali
Bayramli) in 28 May 1950.
He studied at schools No. 1 (1957-1960) and No. 2 (1960-1967), then continued
his education at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Languages named after M.F. Akhundov
(now AUL) and received the specialty of teacher of English-Azerbaijani
language.
After receiving secondary education, for a
year (1967-1968) he worked as a reporter in the editorial office of the
newspaper “Ishig” (“Light”), published in Ali Bayramli.
After completing his higher education, he
was assigned as an English teacher in schools in the villages of Shikhsalakhly
and Garagyunei of Sabirabad region (1973-1975).
Since 1975, he is employee of the
Azerbaijan State Scientific Research Pedagogical Institute (now the Institute
of Education). At the institute, Akif Abbasov worked as a junior researcher,
senior researcher, and head of department. At the same time, he worked as
vice-rector for scientific work at the Baku Higher Pedagogical Women's Seminary
(now Baku University for Girls) (1992-1998). Currently he is serving as the Scientific
Secretary at the Institute of Education.
In 1987 he defended his candidate's
dissertation (now Doctor of Philosophy), and in 1995 - his doctoral
dissertation.
A.N. Abbasov – Doctor of Pedagogical
Sciences, Professor, Honored Teacher, full member of the Russian Academy of
Pedagogical and Social Sciences, members of the Union of Writers and
Journalists of Azerbaijan; He was awarded the “Tereggi” medal and was
repeatedly awarded certificates of honor from the Ministry of Education of the
Republic. Winner of the “Golden Pen” media award.
Being the editor-in-chief of the journal
“Scientific Works” of the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan,
he is also the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal “Scientific Works” of the
Baku University for Girls.
Akif Abbasov is a member of the editorial
boards of many magazines.
More than 40 doctors of Science and
Doctors of Philosophy have been trained under the scientific guidance of
Professor Akif Abbasov.
He began his literary and pedagogical
activity in 1966. The first article in the press was published in the “Ishig”
newspaper, published in Ali Bayramli (now. Shirvan) city. After that, from time
to time he appeared in periodicals with fiction and popular scientific works.
Akif Abbasov's scientific research is
devoted to such problems as: family education; preparing students for
independent family life; moral and legal education; pedagogical internship;
management of an educational institution, quality of education; optimization of
the educational process, history of school and pedagogical thought, etc.
Abbasov is the author of 5 textbooks and
teaching aids for secondary schools: “Family”, “Ethics and Psychology of Family
Life” (Methodological Guide for Teachers), “Chrestomathy on Ethics and
Psychology of Family Life”, “Collection of dictations and literary compositions
from English” for Grades 5-11, English ABC Book for Grade 1; 6 textbooks for
universities (“Pedagogy”, “Theory and History of Pedagogy”, “National Morality
and Family Ethics”, “Introduction to the Specialty”, “Family Pedagogy”, “Family
Values”) and 3 Study Guides (“Pedagogy: Chrestomathy”, “Family Pedagogy: Chrestomathy”,
“Pedagogy: brief synopsis and schematics”), 4 textbooks for special schools
(“Reading” (for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades of the boarding school for
hearing impaired)); 2 textbooks for colleges (“Pedagogy”, “National morality
and Family ethics”), and he is also the author of more than 40 books and
brochures, more than 200 scientific articles.
Professor A.N. Abbasov compiled and
published the “English-Azerbaijani pedagogical-psychological dictionary” (1999)
and the “Azerbaijani-English pedagogical-psychological glossary of terms”
(2006, 2019).
He is engaged in literary translations
from English and Russian. His translations from Russian and English are
published in literary almanacs, magazines such as “Azerbaijan”, “Muterjim”,
“Literary Gazette” and on websites.
11 books have been published based on his
translations (“Incident at a Corner”, “Tbilisi Style Divorce”, “The End of
Christy Tucker”, “Cat in the Rain”, translations of Somerset Maugham’s stories
“Rain”, “The Unconquered”, “The Fall of Edward Barnard”, plays like “The Living
Room” by Greene Graham, “Duel” by Mar Baydzhiev, “Andro and Sandro” by Georgy
Khugaev, “Highly educated wife” by Toushan Esenova.
10 volumes of literary works by professor,
writer Akif Abbasov (Nuragaoglu) have been published.
Being the author of 5 novels (“Don’t trust
the words”, “Bitter memories”, “The path that began from Samsun”, “Sultan Murad
II”, “Mehmed the Conqueror”), 2 plays (“Ataturk” and “Good Friend”), 3 stories
(“The way to a Mother’s Heart”, “Dastan about Alish and Anna”, “Good Friend”)
and numerous collections of stories (“Banu and her grandpa”, “Atilla and his
grandpa”, “Reprimand”, “Betrayal”, "Lalash's shoes", "Stories
for Children", "Wooden Spoon", "Spotted Butterfly",
"Invitation to taste Malik`s Dovga", "You Look Like My
Father", "Pension", "As though wanting to do good”,
“Bride”, “Boss’s Leg”, “One-legged is his father”, “Fake vodka”, “A lamb for
you”, “Fist”, “Egg”, “Gizilahmad apples”, “Stories about Ataturk” (1st and 2nd
books), “The Great Turk”, “Cranberry jam and other stories”.
Akif Abbasov's play “Ataturk” was
published in Turkish in Azerbaijan and Turkey (Ankara). Based on this play,
film director Babek Abbaszadeh wrote a libretto, and composer, professor Ogtay
Radjabov composed the opera “Ataturk”.
He is currently working on the novels “God's
curse - Atilla” and “Unneeded Man” which tells about the life of educational
staff.
